Alex Albon is satisfied with the improvements to his Williams
The British team has evolved their race car. The latest components installed seem to suit Alexander Albon.
Progress and satisfaction. Introduced at the British Grand Prix, the upgrades to the Williams could not be properly tested. Alexander Albon was the only beneficiary, and the rainy conditions during the practice sessions and the accident he was involved in did not allow for an evaluation of the performance gain.
This weekend, the Thai found them and delivered a decent performance. For a large part of the race, he was in the top 10, but couldn’t capitalize on it. In the final laps, he was overtaken by a determined Fernando Alonso looking to score points and by Valtteri Bottas.
Another little something to go get.
Despite finishing in 12th place, the former DTM driver seems impressed with the new parts introduced. « It was exciting at times. At one point, we were in tenth place, and I was really thrilled about it. I was happy; it was our first real race with the new aero package. We will learn a lot from the race; we will look at the data and assess where we are strong and where we are weak. Clearly, something is still missing, but we are continuing to get acquainted with the car. So it was almost like a real debut for the car », he stated to motorsport.com.
« We didn’t lose contact with the pack. We had a few blue flags that separated us from the Haas and McLaren. So we’re here, we’re not far off. Especially during the race, I had to push the tires three or four tenths harder than they could handle. I had to do it because that was the pace. If we can achieve that rhythm with the car, then everything becomes easy, we can manage the tires better and I won’t reach the peak [in degradation] like I did in the race. »
The developments provided by Williams could allow their driver and Nicholas Latifi to regain the points zone. Since the Miami Grand Prix, the British team has not added any points to their tally.
