Overtaking would be difficult at Le Castellet

Carlos Sainz is sentenced to a race of attack and overtaking. The Ferrari driver is relegated to the back of the grid following his penalties for changing parts on his car. He will therefore start from the last grid for the race this Sunday.

Knowing that he will have to step up to score important points, the Spaniard trained during the free practice sessions. However, overtaking proves to be more difficult than expected.

“I tried to overtake a few cars for a few moments because I know I will need it, and I have to say it’s a bit trickier than expected, mainly because there is a tailwind on the main straight, so it seems that the drafting effect and the DRS are a bit weaker,” explained the winner of the British GP 2022.

But I have no other choice, I have to find ways to overcome and the best remedy for that is simply to be a little faster on Sunday than we are. We will see on Sunday if we have enough top speed to overtake. I hope that will be the case because I will have to climb up many positions.

However, Charles Leclerc’s teammate should benefit from a new engine and a very powerful car, which should make it easier for the Spanish driver to make a comeback.
