Carlos Sainz, Sebastian Vettel is an “excellent role model”

He is one of the characters who is likely to be missed in Formula 1. During the Hungarian Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement at the end of this 2022 season. Throughout his career, the German has been one of the most appreciated drivers who has worked hard, especially in recent times.

The current Aston Martin driver has displayed several environmental messages, showing support for bees and denouncing oil sands in Canada. His various actions will be missed by many people in the paddock, including Carlos Sainz.

First and foremost, I wish him all the best for the future. I am sure he will have a lot of fun with his family and children. For me, he has been, from the beginning, even before arriving in Formula 1, a great role model, said the Spaniard.

« I remember those years very well, he always had kind words for me, he always stopped to chat with me and give me advice. He is an excellent role model, and like others have already said, he is an ambassador for the sport, but I also think for a young emerging generation.

Still at the GPDA?

The Ferrari driver adds that he had the opportunity to work alongside him in the Red Bull simulator when he was still with Toro Rosso (now known as AlphaTauri) and that this experience allowed him to improve.

Currently, he holds the position of the GPDA (Grand Prix Drivers Association) and he has not indicated whether he will continue his duties within the group. If he does not extend, a new replacement would need to be found.

« He has always gotten along very well with all the teams, with everyone in the paddock, and everyone loves him. You won’t hear anyone speak ill of Seb. He has a genuine human side, he’s not just a driver, and I think we will miss him. But I hope we can see him again in the paddock and that he will help the sport develop in areas where he has been very vocal recently. I hope he continues to lend us a hand in that regard, » adds Carlos Sainz.

The German should, no matter what, quit Formula 1 with his four world titles, his 53 victories, at the end of his 300th race.
