Charles Leclerc does not expect to be the favorite at Monza
The Monegasque expects a difficult weekend on Ferrari's home turf, at Monza.
Here are four Grand Prix droughts for Charles Leclerc and the Scuderia. As Formula 1 heads to Monza, in the temple of speed and Ferrari, the team managed by Mattia Binotto is expected to deliver.
Problem, on this Lombard circuit, top speed is crucial. However, the team that has been leading the rankings in this area so far is Red Bull and not Ferrari. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez could therefore be serious contenders for victory. The Scuderia could, in theory, be a little further down the hierarchy.
The top speed could be lacking.
On paper, it looks like a tough weekend for us. We expect Red Bull to be stronger, the track characteristics don’t exactly match our car, but we have had both good and bad surprises this year, so I hope this is one of the good ones and that we will perform according to our expectations, thinks Charles Leclerc.
« Their main strength [at Red Bull] this year is straight line speed, we seem to be a bit faster in the corners. On tracks like this, it’s not enough to regain the advantage they have on the straight lines. »
If Ferrari fails to prevail this weekend, their chances of winning the title would be even further diminished. The goal set by Mattia Binotto to win the last seven races would also take a hit.
As a reminder, Ferrari has won only four races this season, compared to 11 for Red Bull. The Italian team is 135 points behind the Austrian team.
