Aston Martin on track for sixth place in the constructors’ championship?
After a completely failed start to the season, the British manufacturer is making up ground race after race. Will this forward progress continue until they reach sixth place in the constructor standings?
Aston Martin joined the Formula 1 World Championship in 2021. They finished in 7th place in the 2021 campaign, with results below their goals.
2022 starts off extremely difficult. Indeed, the AMR 22 was born under a bad sign and the first races are a real struggle for Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll.
Despite a capped budget, the Silverstone-based constructor brought a B version of their car from the Spanish Grand Prix onwards. The team, which rose from the ashes of Racing Point and previously Force India, is no stranger to controversy. After the Pink Mercedes affair, now comes the Green Red Bull controversy, with observers finding similarities between the two cars. Despite accusations from other teams, the matter remains unresolved.
Before the introduction of its new package, Aston Martin had only scored 6 points in the first five races. It was then in 9th place in the constructors’ standings.
Since the Spanish round, which consists of 12 races, the Verts have scored points in 9 races, allowing them to climb back to the seventh position in the constructors’ standings, just 7 points behind Alfa Romeo, who have only scored a single point since the British Grand Prix in early July.
With four rounds remaining and the current momentum, Aston Martin is on the verge of overtaking Alfa Romeo for 6th place. The team managed by Lawrence Stroll has also built a comfortable lead of 11 points over Haas and AlphaTauri, its two closest rivals.
