Max Verstappen is a more mature driver for Helmut Marko
A few days after his second world championship title, Helmut Marko praises the qualities of Max Verstappen.
The Dutch pilot, aggressive and dangerous as some of his comrades indicated, is far behind now. Max Verstappen is wiser – though passionate – but he is a two-time world champion.
This year, the Red Bull driver crossed the finish line first on 12 occasions. He is very close to the record. This statistic impresses one of his bosses, Helmut Marko, who praises his driver.
(h) Honestly, he [Verstappen] isn’t the kind of person to chase records, and I think one day he’ll say ‘that’s enough’ and move on.
He is much more relaxed, he is a much more mature driver. In Budapest or Spa [when he started from the back of the grid], in the first corner of the first lap, I thought to myself ‘who is in this car?’ He let the cars pass and once he was in clear air, bang, he showed all his talent. It’s a big step forward and I think it’s not the end yet of what we have been able to see of his performance,” he assures our colleagues at Sky Sports.
Early bloomer model, Max Verstappen is breaking records and seems to be on a good path. With 32 victories to his name, he is still far from Lewis Hamilton’s 103, but the pace shown by the Dutchman suggests that the mark will be broken. However, Helmut Marko does not see his driver dethroning the Brit.
Honestly, he [Verstappen] is not the type to seek records, and I think one day he will say “that’s enough” and leave.
Record or not record, Max Verstappen will be able to attempt to obtain his 33rd victory, the 13th this season, next weekend.
