Lance Stroll penalized three places, in Mexico

The crash could have taken a bad turn. Shortly after the safety car intervention following Valtteri Bottas’ retirement, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll collided. While the Spanish driver was behind the Canadian, the Alpine driver attempted an overtaking maneuver. However, his future teammate moved to the side and the two men collided.

Alpine number 14 therefore took flight after involuntarily using the Aston Martin as a ramp. Fernando Alonso then hit the safety barrier, but was able to continue. As for Lance Stroll, he had to retire, with his car being completely destroyed.

After reviewing the various cameras, the commissioners of the United States Grand Prix have determined that the Aston Martin driver was responsible for the accident. As a result, he has been penalized with two points on his super license. In Mexico, for the next race, he will move back three places on the starting grid.
