Mercedes worked under curfew
The German team worked very late in the pit stands last night.
As the end of the season approaches, Mercedes will no longer have the right to make mistakes. Last night, there was activity in the pits, especially in the German team’s pits.
According to a statement from the FIA, mechanics from the team managed by Toto Wolff were present to work on one of the two cars. With this overnight work, Mercedes used their second and final ‘joker’ for period 3. Therefore, they are no longer allowed to be present in the pits during this period until the end of the season.
For reference, the sporting regulations of Formula 1 state that there are 3 different curfews to which several exceptions are granted. Article 23.7 specifies:
– Couvre-feu 1: Commence 42 heures avant le début des FP1 et termine 29 heures avant.
– Couvre-feu 2: Commence 18 heures avant le début des FP1 et termine 4 heures avant.
– Couvre-feu 3: Commence 13 heures avant le début des FP3 et termine 3 heures avant.
