F1 2022 rankings: Leclerc retains second place, Alpine finishes ahead of McLaren
At the end of the final race of the season, Charles Leclerc held on to second place ahead of Sergio Perez. Alpine, despite Fernando Alonso's retirement, retained its 4th place.
It was the most anticipated battle: Sergio Perez against Charles Leclerc. Their duel during the season finale was supposed to determine the order in the world championship. Both arrived with 290 points on the scoreboard, but the Monegasque finishes one position ahead of his rival and claims the title of vice-world champion.
A few rows behind, Carlos Sainz benefits from the reliability issue that affected Lewis Hamilton to regain his fifth place in the World Championship. It’s the first time that the British driver doesn’t finish in the top 5 of a World Championship.
Among the constructors, Alpine maintains the advantage over McLaren. Despite Fernando Alonso’s retirement, Esteban Ocon scores valuable points that allow the French team to finish in fourth place.
Aston Martin falls one point short of Alfa Romeo for the sixth position in the constructors’ championship.
