Mattia Binotto’s place increasingly uncertain
According to several Italian media reports, tensions between Mattia Binotto and Ferrari boss John Elkann are becoming increasingly tense.
Since taking over the leadership of the Scuderia, Mattia Binotto’s results have not been satisfactory. Although this year, the Reds have brought a car capable of competing with the Red Bulls, they are finishing far back in the championship. The reasons behind this are strategic errors and reliability issues. And sometimes, driving errors, notably Charles Leclerc’s in France.
These poor results have given rise to rumors suggesting that Mattia Binotto is on the hot seat. However, he has assured that he will be present in 2023. This is not what the Italian press claims.
According to our colleagues from across the Alps, the relationship between the Scuderia boss and John Elkann has become strained. These tensions could therefore be pushing the Italian towards an exit. For the time being, nothing official has been announced, but in the event of Mattia Binotto’s resignation, a Frenchman could replace him. The name of Fred Vasseur, current boss of Alfa Romeo Sauber, has been mentioned several times. He would become the second Frenchman, after Jean Todt, to take the helm of the Scuderia.
