Ocon hopes one day to challenge Verstappen for the title
Esteban Ocon is about to embark on his 6th season in Formula 1. The Alpine driver had a superb season in 2022, beating team-mate Fernando Alonso. He'd like to fight Max Verstappen for the title one day.
Max Verstappen has won his second consecutive world championship title this season and could very well continue to dominate Formula 1 in the years to come. Esteban Ocon grew up alongside the Dutch driver, competing against each other in the lower formula categories before reaching the pinnacle of motorsport.
A pure talent
Throughout the 2022 season, Max Verstappen dominated the discipline by winning 15 out of 22 Grand Prix races. While he was supported by his excellent Austrian car, he is a driver who has a lot of talent. This characteristic has been visible for many years, according to Esteban Ocon.
He is simply a super talent. Max is competitive constantly and everywhere, it has been like that for years. I have known it since my childhood. Since karting, he has dominated the championships. Then, he was fast in every car he drove.
The French driver therefore believes that he fully deserves the two world titles he won in 2021 and 2022.
Last year, I already thought so and this year, he is having an exceptional season. I am proud that a driver I grew up with is emerging like this. Max is a brilliant representative of my generation. He is one of the greats in this sport.
A long-awaited fight.
After fighting against Verstappen in karting and Formula 3, Ocon hopes that he will be able to compete against him for a Formula 1 world championship title in the future. However, he knows that this won’t be possible for the next season, but he hopes that Alpine will be able to close the gap that separates them from the top teams.
