Toto Wolff assures that Vowles will be a “fantastic” Team Principal at Williams

To everyone’s surprise, Williams parted ways with their technical director François-Xavier Demaison and their boss Jost Capito at the end of last season. But the British team has finally announced the name of their new director. If Mercedes loses one of its masterminds, Williams will now benefit from the expertise of James Vowles.

Despite everything, Toto Wolff did not fail to mention the qualities of his highly appreciated former colleague: “James has been a highly valued member of our team in his role as director of motorsport strategy, playing a crucial role in our success in recent years,” he declared.

Despite his disappointment at losing the valuable qualities of Vowles, Toto Wolff is pleased to see a new challenge ahead of him after so many years of service with Mercedes. “Although we are naturally sad to say goodbye to such a competent team member, I have no doubt that he possesses all the necessary skills to become a fantastic team principal in Formula 1,” he said.

However, the performances at Williams are far from being as satisfactory as at Mercedes. The team is stagnating at the bottom of the standings and finished in last place in the constructors’ championship in 2022. The challenge will definitely be daunting for Vowles.
