The Albert Park circuit could regain its fourth DRS zone

A first one in the straight of the pit lane. A second one between turns 2 and 3. The third one in the new fast section of the track and the last one at the end of the second sector. This is the configuration that should have been implemented last year. In the end, the third one had to be removed for safety reasons.

« There was supposed to be a DRS zone around Lakeside, the fourth one which Fernando Alonso made safety comments about to the FIA race director. Changes will be made as a result of this », commented Andrew Westacott, the director of the Australian Grand Prix.

In 2023, the event organizers wish to reclaim it. « We are optimistic, very optimistic, that we will recover this fourth DRS zone for 2023, which would be a wonderful addition to the racing competition and overtaking. » They support their statements based on the fact that the circuit underwent significant renovations in 2021 precisely to accommodate it and promote overtaking in races.

For now, the FIA has not yet confirmed the return of this fourth DRS zone on the Melbourne Albert Park circuit.
