Max Verstappen voted driver of the day in Saudi Arabia
The Dutchman managed to climb from 15th to 2nd place. He also secured the fastest lap point in the last lap of the race.
This result, he went and got it. Certainly, well aided by a timely safety car. But once again, he gave a lesson in driving. After a rather cautious start from the reigning world champion, he passes the drivers without attacking too fiercely.
While he was about to attack Charles Leclerc, the latter entered the pits to change tyres. A few moments later, Lance Stroll had to retire due to a mechanical issue, which triggered a safety car. This benefited the Red Bull driver, who gained several positions for free thanks to a free pit stop.
He then went after Lewis Hamilton, and then Fernando Alonso, effortlessly overtaking them. But his teammate, Sergio Perez, had an excellent race pace. Max Verstappen tried to catch up to him, but the Mexican had a response. The number 11 driver was heading towards a bonus victory, with the fastest lap point, which did not sit well with Max Verstappen, who snatched it from him in the final moments.
