Max Verstappen: “I was unlucky with the safety car”
The Dutch driver finished in second place. While he was leading the race, the safety car came and disrupted his plans.
He was heading towards a third victory this season. But Nyck de Vries, the safety car, and poor timing had a different plan. Starting third, Max Verstappen managed to overtake his teammate and Charles Leclerc. However, the crash of his compatriot, following a slight collision with the wall, pushed him back to his original position on the grid.
The double world champion wasted no time in overtaking the Monegasque, but stumbled upon his faster teammate. Max Verstappen also encountered some issues with his car.
The safety car was unlucky for me. When I got back into Checo’s [Perez] DRS zone, the tires were overheating and that’s why I couldn’t get too close. The last few laps were better, but it was too late.
He remains at the top of the world championship, but Sergio Pérez is coming back very strong with his victory.
