The battle for the F1 championship is tightening more than ever

Thanks to his victories in the Sprint race on Saturday and the traditional race on Sunday, Sergio Perez is catching up to his teammate Max Verstappen and is now only 6 points behind. This puts good pressure on the Dutchman as Formula 1 will resume next weekend in Miami.

On his side, Fernando Alonso is widening the gap with Lewis Hamilton for the third position, now 12 points behind the Mercedes driver. Hamilton sees Carlos Sainz getting slightly closer, at 14 points, compared to 18 before the race. But at Ferrari, it is Charles Leclerc who is making the most of it: while he was only 10th with 6 small points before coming to Baku, he climbs back to the 6th position thanks to his first podium of the year, now with 28 points, only 6 points behind his teammate. He is also tied with George Russell, and just one point behind Lance Stroll, who has dropped two places in the rankings.

At the constructors’ level, nothing changes, but Red Bull confirms its dominance with a 93-point lead over its closest pursuers from Aston Martin. The gap between the latter and the third-ranked team, Mercedes, remains practically unchanged (11 points, compared to 9 before Baku). Behind them, Ferrari earns valuable points, now totaling 62 units, just 14 points behind Mercedes. Toto Wolff’s team will have to stay vigilant regarding the Italian threat.
