Lewis Hamilton couldn’t do anything against Carlos Sainz
The Briton fought hard against Carlos Sainz for the fifth spot, but he couldn't manage to overtake him.
Lewis Hamilton also had a stroke of bad luck. He entered the pits just before the safety car came out, causing him to lose several positions and end up behind slower drivers with worn-out tires. Once the race resumed, the British driver managed to overtake them, just like his teammate, with a bit of audacity.
The timing of the safety car wasn’t ideal! But I couldn’t get stuck in this frustration. I had to keep my head down and focus on the attack, explained the British driver.
On a good pace, the seven-time world champion caught up to Carlos Sainz in the gearbox, but never managed to overtake him despite using the DRS.
« I really enjoyed these battles with the cars around me. Sainz’s Ferrari was just a little faster than us on the straight, even with the DRS open. I gave it everything I had to try and pass him. »
The Mercedes driver admitted to having less pace than in Melbourne, three weeks ago. He will now focus on this aspect during the upcoming races.
