Sebastian Vettel back behind the wheel of an F1 car at the Goodwood Festival

A brief retreat. Sebastian Vettel, 11 years after his last appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, will once again be part of it this year. This festival is an annual hill climb race that brings together numerous historic racing vehicles at Goodwood House, in West Sussex, United Kingdom. The first edition took place in 1993, initiated by Charles Gordon-Lennox. This annual event also honors a different manufacturer each year, such as Ferrari for its fiftieth anniversary in 1997 or Mercedes-Benz for its hundredth anniversary in 2001.

The four-time world champion should drive some of the single-seaters he owns. Therefore, he should showcase Nigel Mansell’s Williams FW14B and Ayrton Senna’s McLaren MP4/8 to the public on this small hill climb race track during the weekend of July 15th and 16th. « It’s great to come back to Goodwood after all these years,” assures the former Red Bull, Ferrari, and Aston Martin driver.

These cars will run on sustainable fuels, at the initiative of Race Without Trace. The German had actually demonstrated this type of fuel with Nigel Mansell’s Williams at Silverstone last year.

Celebrating 15 years of career and promoting a more sustainable sport

The German driver will take advantage of his appearance not only to celebrate his 15-year career in Formula 1, but also to promote the issue of sustainability in the future of the sport, a subject he continues to defend. With this in mind, Vettel will only drive cars that run on synthetic fuel during the event.

I am a passionate driver and it is important to me that we continue to enjoy driving iconic race cars today and in the future, but that we do so responsibly.

The native of Heppenheim already took part in the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2012, where he celebrated his second World Championship victory by driving his RB7 car, which had won the constructors’ title.

The last time we had seen Vettel publicly competing was during the Race of Champions, broadcasted during the winter in Sweden.
