Lance Stroll was initially a fan of Fernando Alonso

The relationship between the two drivers generated a lot of discussion in the paddock. During the Baku race, Stroll radioed the team to indicate that he wouldn’t attack Alonso as the Spaniard was trying to preserve his tires. Similarly, later in the race, Alonso communicated his braking positions to assist Stroll.

During the pre-race conference of the 2023 Miami GP, Ian Parkes from the New York Times revealed that Stroll and Alonso had met for the first time over ten years ago. When asked about his relationship with his teammate, Stroll declared that it was founded on respect for the work and achievements Alonso has accumulated throughout his career.

« I wouldn’t say we had a real relationship when I was 12 years old. I was just a fanboy! He is incredibly talented, skilled, experienced, and he wants to give his best every day. I have a lot of respect for him because he has been doing it for so long. He has been at the top of his game for… how many years has he been in F1? I don’t know, over 20 years? So, I think just seeing that determination, focus, and motivation every day inspires a lot of respect from me. »

A great synergy between the two pilots

Speaking of Alonso, Lance Stroll said that the synergy between the two drivers is excellent and that it has helped the team this season.

We have great synergy in the team and the car is really enjoyable to drive. I think our relationship is excellent and we both strive to get the best out of the car every weekend. As a team, collectively, we are constantly trying to find more ideas and ways to improve the setup, to make it even better. And I think this dynamic is really good.

The partnership with Aston Martin was a surprise for many, especially since the relationship between Vettel and Stroll was sometimes on the verge of breaking down.
