Max Verstappen is widening the gap at the top of the driver’s championship
After this race weekend in Miami, Max Verstappen takes a 14-point lead over his teammate Sergio Perez, although nothing is lost for the Mexican.
With his victory in the second edition of the Miami Grand Prix, Max Verstappen bounces back after Baku and extends a more significant advantage over his teammate Sergio Perez, now leading by 14 points. The Dutchman was under pressure after his qualifying was cut short by Charles Leclerc’s accident. Despite starting in 9th position on the grid, he delivered a controlled race to triumph once again on this Miami track.
Regarding Fernando Alonso, the Spaniard confirms his status as the best of the rest with another podium, extending his lead over Hamilton to 19 points. Before the American race, the gap was 12 points. As for the Ferrari drivers, the situation is not ideal as they are still far behind the Red Bull drivers. Sainz remains in 5th place, but he sees George Russell closing in, trailing by just 4 points. As for the Monegasque side of the Italian garage, Charles Leclerc scored 6 points over the weekend, placing him in 7th position. It’s a sad reality for the Scuderia, especially considering that last year at the same time, car number 16 was leading the championship. It’s also a disappointing result for the Canadian Lance Stroll, who finds himself in the last position among the top 4 teams, with a total of 27 points, 7 points behind Charles Leclerc.
Among the constructors, nothing has changed in terms of position. Red Bull still dominates with 224 points in 5 races. The Austrian team now has a 122 point lead over their pursuer, Aston Martin. As for Mercedes, they made a good move by scoring 20 points this weekend (compared to 15 for Aston Martin and 16 for Ferrari). They still remain in 3rd place, but there are only 6 points separating the two teams.
Despite a complicated race, Ferrari remains in contention, far ahead of Alpine who achieved their best performance of the season on the scoreboard with 6 points during this weekend in Miami. They are tied with McLaren, who also have 14 points after 5 races.
