According to Marko, Wolff no longer believes in his employees
According to Helmut Marko, Mercedes no longer believes in their engineers' ability to solve the numerous issues with the W14.
Mercedes is experiencing a difficult start to the season, once again being in 3rd place in the Formula 1 constructors’ standings. Looking for solutions to their design, the German team no longer has confidence in its own employees and is trying to hire new staff.
Red Bull won both titles last year and seems to be on track to do the same in 2023. However, Mercedes is light-years away from its past domination between 2014 and 2021. Helmut Marko stated in the press that the Silver Arrows had tried to bring in new engineers, probably from Red Bull, within the Mercedes team.
It seems that Wolff, the director of the Mercedes team, does not have confidence in the ability of his own employees to solve the problems of the Mercedes, stated the Austrian.
They have just exchanged their technical directors and he already wants to go fishing elsewhere.
Mercedes is not the only team interested in Red Bull engineers
While the Italian team is set to see Laurent Mekies leave for AlphaTauri to succeed Franz Tost as team principal, there have been rumors surrounding the arrival of Vasseur as the Scuderia’s new technical director, with Pierre Waché from Red Bull being mentioned.
However, Marko rejected the suggestions that Waché could join Ferrari.
« We would like Ferrari to be competitive, but that’s not the case. We’re not in a marketplace. Furthermore, Wache doesn’t want to change teams and we wouldn’t agree to let him go,” said Marko.
Another team that has managed to sign a Red Bull engineer, this time it’s Aston Martin who added Dan Fallows as their technical director in April. Fallows is an aerodynamic engineer, and his arrival is certainly not unrelated to Aston Martin’s current form.
As often in the history of F1, other teams want to improve and it starts with designing a good car, so it’s necessary to find the right people to do so.
