The Imola circuit evacuated due to flooding
It was requested that all staff present on the Italian route evacuate the premises. The site is plagued by floods.
The situation is serious in Imola. The region where the circuit is located, Emilia-Romagna, is under a red alert due to heavy rains. This Tuesday, May 16, the situation has worsened in central Italy.
The city of Bologna is flooded. Imola too. A large amount of rain has poured over this region of the Boot. This has caused a very strong rise of the river located on the circuit’s edge.
As the Santerno River reached its alert level, the authorities have decided to evacuate the Imola circuit, which is set to host the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix this weekend.
The alert that was triggered is in effect until Wednesday, May 17, in the evening. But new precipitation is still expected. A weather bulletin will be released tomorrow, revealing the next forecast.
For now, F1 has not announced the cancellation of the race, but depending on the evolution of the situation, it could be considered.
