Pierre Gasly will be able to breathe easier by reclaiming points on his super license on May 22nd
Pierre Gasly had been under high pressure since the beginning of the season with only 2 points to his name. He will regain two on May 22nd and in doing so, he will be able to breathe a little easier and approach the upcoming races in a more relaxed manner.
The Super Licence is a bit like the driver’s license for F1 pilots. Each of them has 12 points when they join Formula 1. The penalty points system in Formula 1 was put in place to regulate the behavior of the pilots, just like with a driver’s license.
Penalty points are imposed on those who cause accidents that endanger other drivers, and once a year has passed since the offense in question, the points are erased. In the case of Pierre Gasly, he received 2 points deducted from his Super License due to contact with Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin during the Spanish Grand Prix.

Currently, Gasly has accumulated 10 penalty points since the Mexican Grand Prix last October and has managed to avoid receiving any penalties since then.
He took part in the following races without being penalized by the stewards. The calendar was challenging, with the Azerbaijan and Miami Grand Prix, and the Baku circuit hosting the first sprint weekend of the season, which added to the risk.
With 12 points needed to trigger a race suspension, the Emilia-Romagna GP was the last race that posed a threat to Gasly.
But two points will be awarded on May 22nd, the day after the originally planned Imola race, which will reduce the likelihood of a Grand Prix suspension.
The following three points will be added to Gasly’s Super License on July 10th.
