Mercedes unveils its plans to renovate Brackley
For several years, Mercedes has initiated several projects and invested in the renovation of Brackley. Toto Wolff unveiled other aspects of Brackley's future, including the ambition to turn it into a campus worthy of Silicon Valley.
Mercedes wants to continue its development in F1. The Silver Arrows are going to heavily invest in their base camp in Brackley, just a few kilometers from the iconic Silverstone circuit, a legendary track in Formula 1. Serving as Mercedes’ headquarters since their return to the pinnacle of motorsport, Brackley will continue to evolve in a positive direction. The German team aims to develop a campus worthy of Silicon Valley.
Mercedes will therefore invest nearly 80 million euros in order to make its campus state-of-the-art in terms of technology. These upgrades will hardly affect the infrastructure for developing race cars. The performance of Mercedes cars will remain unchanged.
The Brackley camp transformation center will primarily target employees. Mercedes aims to put its members in optimal conditions. Mercedes will build new buildings designed for the well-being of its employees. What we plan to do is to expand the campus with several new buildings and create a modern campus. There will be many rest areas, restaurants, and gymnasiums, Toto Wolff revealed.
These modifications and constructions will allow Mercedes to expand their capacity at the Brackley site. For a team that continues to grow, becoming a reference in the category, the Silver Arrows are increasingly numerous in their team. « Initially, Brackley was intended to accommodate 350 people. Nowadays, we are capable of hosting 1250 employees », continued the Mercedes team director.
Just like McLaren, Mercedes wants to continue investing in the well-being of its employees. The German team is always expanding its initiatives beyond performance. The residents of Brackley want to accomplish these projects while keeping the objective of powering the facility with 100% renewable energy.
Toto Wolff wants to emphasize that Mercedes is carrying out these projects for the well-being of the site’s employees. « We don’t want to do this to be rewarded with an architectural prize. […] We want form to follow functionality. But we want everything to be done to create a pleasant working environment », continued the team principal.
