Christian Horner is not bothered by the sight from beneath the Red Bull

In Monaco, the teams have the opportunity to see the floors of several single-seaters during their towing by the circuit crane. Sergio Perez's car, in particular, could be observed during qualifying. But this situation doesn't bother Christian Horner.

Everyone knows, the Red Bull of the 2023 season is the strongest, by far. The aerodynamics of the car seem to be perfectly tuned, which greatly contributes to the surreal pace of the Austrian team. But in Monaco, Red Bull’s competitors had the opportunity to witness a glimpse of the superiority of this racing car.

During the qualifying session in Monaco, Sergio Perez lost control of his car right at the first turn in Q1. An accident that actually made him start from last place and compromised his Grand Prix. But this crash may have had more consequences than expected. To remove the car from the track, a crane was logically used.

But this use can help certain teams in the world championship. When the car was in the air, the cameras broadcasted the underside of Sergio Perez’s car. A component that rarely gets the opportunity to be showcased. So some teams will be able to study these images in order to try and replicate a part. But this doesn’t bother Christian Horner.

(e) Everyone found themselves in the air at some point or another. It’s the same for everyone, said the team director of Red Bull. Lewis Hamilton’s car also ended up in the air, hanging from a crane. That’s why Christian Horner doesn’t feel disadvantaged in this respect.

In addition to all of this, Christian Horner knows that most teams already know what the floor of the Red Bull looks like. Nowadays, it’s very difficult to hide the external parts of their cars. Teams are investing more and more resources to try to uncover the specificities of their rival teams.

(D) Photos of the flat grounds are taken every day in the paddock. For race weekends, they arrive by trucks, just like the cars. All the teams pay spies photographers to take pictures of the cars when they are in pieces. (F), Christian Horner continued. The vision of Red Bull in Monaco would therefore have changed nothing.

Some teams are nevertheless happy that their single-seater was not shown during an accident. This is the case with Aston Martin in particular and Lance Stroll’s car during the race. The team’s single-seater is particularly performant this season. Seeing certain parts of the Aston Martin car could have given ideas to the competitors.

I think some aerodynamicists will look favorably upon the images of the single-seaters that were lifted. Fortunately, ours was not suspended when Lance Stroll had his accident, said Tom McCullough, Performance Director at Aston Martin.

Flat bottoms are important parts of a car’s performance. These parts have a significant impact on the aerodynamics of a single-seater. Therefore, they are logically hidden as much as possible.

The aerodynamics specialists do not want to share these parts. You can learn a lot just by looking at the floor, for example. You can also learn by looking at the parts that touch the ground, said the performance director of Aston Martin.
