Lewis Hamilton fears qualifying in Barcelona
The Briton is afraid that his pace will prevent him from making it to Q3. To increase his chances, he will make several changes to his Mercedes.
The developments introduced by Mercedes in Monaco do not seem to be revolutionary. In the Principality, Lewis Hamilton struggled for a long time. In Spain, it seems to be repeating. During the first free practice session, he was more than a second behind Max Verstappen. In the second run, he finished 11th.
Even though he is quite far down in the rankings, the gaps – except with the Red Bulls – are very narrow. A situation that could prevent top teams and elite drivers from reaching Q3. This is Lewis Hamilton’s opinion. «
I think with the pace I had today, it will be difficult for me to break into the top 10. But I hope we will make some changes for tomorrow. »
A second failure to advance to Q2, after Miami?
I think we are very close to each other, from P5 to P10. It’s impressive to see the improvements made by everyone around us. If we look at [Esteban] Ocon, the Alpine cars are performing very well. We have seen that Aston Martin is in second place just behind Red Bull, which is really, really impressive. So it won’t be easy, that’s for sure.
If he were to speak the truth, the British driver would then, for the second time this season, be eliminated in the second phase of qualifying. In the first one, in Miami, the Mercedes driver managed to climb up to sixth place.
