Qualifications interrupted by a red flag
A few minutes after the start of the qualifying sessions, the red flag was raised in Barcelona. Several drivers had some scary moments on a wet track.
The rain made its appearance during the first moments of qualifying. In Barcelona, several drivers fell into a trap. Especially Yuki Tsunoda after a few corners. The Japanese driver locked his wheels, severely damaging them.
Later, it was Fernando Alonso who took a detour in the gravel in the last turn of the track. Then, Valtteri Bottas also got trapped. The Finn accelerated through a puddle, which sent him into the gravel.
Alexander Albon also went to visit the gravel trap, but managed to get his Williams out of there. He resumed the track. Following all these track exits, the FIA decided to display the red flag to clean the asphalt and remove all the gravel.
Only seven drivers have a valid time.
