Christian Horner is not worried about the progress of the Mercedes

Mercedes displayed a very convincing pace this weekend in Barcelona. The Silver Arrows had a superb race, showing themselves to be the “best among the others”. The Brackley team brought upgrades to their car even before arriving in Monaco. These improvements seem to have worked well on Sunday.

A fast pace

Mercedes achieved its first double podium of the season. But what worried the direct competitors of the Silver Arrows like Ferrari or Aston Martin was that Lewis Hamilton and George Russell managed to close the gap on Red Bull in terms of race pace. On the side of the Austrian team, no one is panicking.

“They have taken a good step forward, that’s for sure. They had a big improvement upon arriving in Spain, but we still have a few small parts that should arrive later in the season,” said Christian Horner.

The Red Bull team manager remains cautious. The season is still long and Mercedes could still make improvements that would bring them even closer to Red Bull. At present, Christian Horner is not worried.

“They are a quality team. They will surely try to put us under pressure in the second part of the year. We will need to stay vigilant,” Christian Horner added.

No need to worry

For the director of the Austrian team, it is difficult to predict the order behind the two Red Bulls. The fact that the cars are in the same pace makes the task complicated for Christian Horner. He cannot clearly identify which team could threaten Red Bull.

« The Ferraris don’t have the pace we were expecting. The order behind us seems to be constantly changing and not staying the same. It has evolved a lot since the beginning of the season. It’s difficult to predict who will be in which position at each round of the championship », concluded the British driver.
