For Toto Wolff, the W14 will struggle in Canada

The director of the Mercedes team, Toto Wolff, admitted that the expected performance for this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix should not be as good as in Spain. This is due to the completely different characteristics between the two circuits.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell highlighted the progress made thanks to a major overhaul of the side pods and improvements made on Catalan soil. These innovations allowed the British drivers to finish 2nd and 3rd, two weeks ago.

But for the return of F1 on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, Toto Wolff warned that it is unlikely that such a performance will be repeated.

“With its long straight lines and slow corners, it’s not a circuit that should suit the W14 as well as Barcelona,” Wolff said.

Regardless of the actual pace of the car this weekend, we will seek to maximize our result. The characteristics of the circuit will also give us the opportunity to learn more about the W14 and continue our development program.

Hamilton’s contract extension agreed upon this weekend?

Toto Wolff assures that Mercedes is doing everything possible to re-sign Lewis Hamilton : « We are doing everything possible. I will see him today and maybe we will talk about it. We have a very good relationship ».

It was an extension that had sparked a lot of conversation in the paddock last month, but seems to be heading towards an extension with Mercedes. The boss of the German team is confident and claims that the decision will be made very soon. (e) It will happen soon, and we are talking more in terms of days than weeks. (e)
