After experiencing difficulties in the race during his last outing in Spain, Lando Norris declares that no circuit suits the McLaren MCL60 in its current form.

In its current form, no circuit suits the McLaren according to Norris

Lando Norris has given a negative assessment of his team’s current situation, stating that “no circuit” on the F1 calendar currently suits the MCL60.

Norris and his teammate Oscar Piastri have only scored 17 points in the first seven races of 2023, with McLaren being 23 points behind fifth-placed Alpine.

The question remains whether the Canadian Grand Prix at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit would be more suitable for McLaren. Norris simply answered: “No circuit suits our car.”

« We have difficulty in the turns. The very long turns are clearly less good. We need fast turns. »

« We are actually very competitive at high speeds, I would even say close to being among the best on the track, but it’s the complete opposite in slow corners.

A Spanish weekend to forget

In Spain, Norris surprised many people by qualifying in third place on the grid, but he immediately sought to temper the hopes by saying that he would struggle to maintain himself in the top 10 during the race.

Indeed, both Norris and Piastri finished outside the points in Spain, with Norris’ race being ruined by a collision on the first lap that forced him to stop and change his front wing.

The British driver added that the characteristics of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya did not work in favor of McLaren. If you take the last sector in Barcelona, it was a disaster for us. It was so painful, stated Norris.

« It’s different, it’s not just the fact that it’s a long turn. It’s the way you’re able to drive the turns, release the brakes, which we simply don’t have. »

I am therefore trying to understand all of this and make a difference. This is also what we need if we want to be competitive and become a better team.
