Incident during the FP1 in Canada: Fernando Alonso expresses criticism
The Spanish judged the situation as "embarrassing" after the FIA cancelled the first free practice session following a technical issue.
He clearly didn’t appreciate it. Friday’s day was heavily disrupted. The early afternoon session was canceled after the FIA detected a problem with the circuit’s security cameras. This deprived the teams of valuable track time ahead of the Grand Prix.
A 30-minute catch-up session was given to the 20 drivers to make adjustments. However, Fernando Alonso did not appreciate this situation.
The fans arrived very early at the circuit, and we couldn’t race in FP1. From time to time, this sport shoots itself in the foot, these things are a bit embarrassing. We didn’t have time in FP1 because the circuit cameras weren’t working, and in this sport, we didn’t have a plan B, complained the double world champion.
This unexpected change in schedule, however, did not disturb the Spaniard, who achieved the fourth fastest time in the second practice session.
