ePrix de Monaco 2025 – Race 1: Third win of the season for Oliver Rowland ahead of Nyck de Vries

1 out of 2. This season, Oliver Rowland is taking an alternating current approach. Already a winner of the second and fourth races respectively in Mexico and Saudi Arabia, the Nissan driver claimed victory in the sixth race in Monaco, his first success on the legendary circuit of the Principality.

Starting on the front line behind his compatriot Taylor Barnard, the Briton was stuck for a long time in the rear wing of the McLaren.

It was on the 8th of the 29 planned laps that the race began to liven up. Involved in a collision with Edoardo Mortara and David Beckmann, Antonio Felix da Costa was forced to retire, leading to the appearance of a Full Course Yellow. The Portuguese driver for Porsche was thus left to postpone his hopes of a new victory in Monaco to another day, after the one achieved in 2021.

A second neutralization of the race occurred on the 14th lap when Mitch Evans’ Jaguar stopped on the track. At that moment, Nico Müller attempted a gamble. A victim of a puncture and last at the end of the first lap, the Andretti driver took advantage of the yellow flags to perform his Pit Boost.

Thanks to this free pit stop, the Swiss driver found himself in the lead when his competitors followed suit into the pit lane. Lacking performance at the end of the race, Müller had to concede first to Nyck de Vries, then Jake Dennis and Oliver Rowland, and finally Edoardo Mortara.

Thanks to a final Attack Mode activated at an opportune moment towards the end of the race, Rowland was able to catch up with the race leaders to overtake Dennis and De Vries and finish on the top step of the podium.

Winner in Miami three weeks ago, Pascal Wehrlein finished 6th after colliding with the unfortunate Barnard, who finished 16th under the checkered flag. The reigning champion now has a 34-point deficit to Rowland, who, thanks to this victory, strengthens his lead in the championship standings.

The second race of the Monaco weekend will take place Sunday at 3 PM.
