Max Verstappen ready for a hat-trick at Silverstone, once again
The double reigning world champion hopes to arrive as the favorite at Silverstone, the new home race weekend for the Milton Keynes team.
The start of the season has been perfect for Red Bull, who haven’t let any victories slip away. Two wins for Sergio Pérez and seven for Max Verstappen, in his own category. With an 81-point lead over his Mexican teammate, the Dutchman already has a comfortable gap and is heading straight towards a third world championship title. For now, no one can match him.
In Canada, Aston Martin and Mercedes finished quite close to Verstappen, hinting at hope for future races. But in Austria, the Dutch powerhouse restored order, this time ahead of the Ferraris. With a daring final pit stop for the fastest lap, resurfacing just two seconds ahead of Charles Leclerc with two laps to go, Verstappen almost allowed himself to humiliate his competitors.
At Silverstone, teams are bringing new parts. This is the case for Ferrari, but especially for Mercedes and Aston Martin, who are making major upgrades to their cars. Will this be enough? Let’s not forget that Silverstone is not the most successful circuit for the Dutch driver. He has only won once, during the 70th anniversary Grand Prix in 2020, and the Silverstone track has not always brought him good surprises. In 2021, he had a collision with Lewis Hamilton, ending his race in the first lap, and in 2022, his car was damaged due to debris, allowing him to finish 7th. In 2023, Max Verstappen arrives more prepared than ever, and most importantly, the competition is not the same as in previous years: Red Bull seems to be on its own.
Max Verstappen confident
For the one who has surpassed Ayrton Senna in terms of victories, and who now chases Prost and Vettel. He arrives in England with confidence and a desire to perform well. « We are heading towards a new home race for our team this weekend at Silverstone. It’s an excellent circuit and I’m curious to see how the RB19 will perform there. There is always a great atmosphere with many passionate fans around the track. Austria was an incredible weekend for us and I hope we can have another good weekend at Silverstone, with a strong and clean performance » said Max Verstappen. For the Milton Keynes-based team, just a few kilometers away, it’s indeed another home weekend like at the Red Bull Ring. And Max Verstappen will chase his 43rd career victory, a 2nd one on this Silverstone track.
He also mentions the weather factor, which could prove to be an important factor. « We never know what the weather has in store for us in the UK, which could change everything » he stated. For now, there are no major weather alerts around Silverstone. However, thunderstorms could arrive at the end of the week and affect the circuit during the weekend. In the meantime, let’s keep an eye on the radars.
On the other side of the garage, Sergio Pérez will have to deliver a flawless performance to revive his chances in the championship, even though with an 81-point deficit, it’s almost lost. But the Mexican driver must urgently get back on track as he is fighting for second place in the championship in order to achieve a double, something that Red Bull has never achieved before.
Aston Martin, Ferrari and Mercedes capable of fighting alongside Red Bull? Rain? A revenge-seeking Sergio Perez? First answers as early as Friday.
