Lance Stroll hopes to regain some speed at Silverstone
A 5th place finish for Alonso and a 9th place for Stroll, the Austrian Grand Prix wasn't Aston Martin's best weekend. As they arrive at Silverstone, Lance Stroll hopes to find solutions to get back towards the front.
Lance Stroll is experiencing a difficult start to the season and is suffering from comparison with his teammate Fernando Alonso, who is performing magical feats behind the wheel of the Aston Martin. Nonetheless, the Canadian has shown some impressive race management skills, particularly at his home race in Canada and in Austria. However, in Austria, the performance was not as desired.
(I don’t think this is our most competitive weekend. We have a few ideas to explain that,” Stroll said about Austria.)
Indeed, Aston Martin has struggled somewhat at the Red Bull Ring, especially with Ferrari’s comeback. The Silverstone-based team is trying to find answers to this lack of competitiveness: “We lacked a bit of straight-line speed, had some balance issues in the corners, and didn’t look as competitive as other teams, especially in high-speed corners last week,” explained Lance Stroll. The positive point for the team is that they know what went wrong in Austria. They will be able to rectify the situation by bringing improvements in these areas.
Shining at home for the Greens
Even if the weekend at the Red Bull Ring hasn’t been the best for Aston Martin since the start of the season, Lance Stroll wishes to take away from there a better understanding of the car and future improvements. At Silverstone, a home race awaits Aston Martin, whose factory is located in the city and right next to the circuit.
Moreover, Lance Stroll is looking forward to this home race where the engineers at the factory will be able to come and observe the AMR23 on the track.
« For the team, there’s nothing more local than this race. It’s awesome. I mean, just for everyone on the team, a lot of guys at the factory who don’t really get the chance to come out, watch races very often, and see the car this weekend, they have the opportunity to come out and see the car and get a feel for the race weekend, which is cool. And it’s a great circuit to drive. It’s always a lot of fun,” exclaimed the Canadian driver at Thursday’s press conference. In front of the entire team, Stroll will be determined to achieve a good performance. Both to bring Aston Martin back into the race and to regain confidence behind the wheel.
Improvements for Aston Martin
As planned several weeks ago, Aston Martin is bringing updates to its AMR23 at Silverstone. Both to regain speed and try to reduce the gap with Red Bull, the British team hopes that the new parts brought will work. It is imperative for Aston Martin that these improvements work: Mercedes is also bringing upgrades and Ferrari is returning to the forefront.
« We have some improvements this weekend, some elements that we are bringing to the car to try and improve some of the weaknesses we had in Austria. So I hope that we will be a bit more competitive this weekend,” said Stroll, who is confident in approaching this weekend.
