ePrix de Jeddah 2025 – Race 2: Oliver Rowland takes revenge and breaks away from the championship

Even though the show was less than the day before, the second race of the weekend in Jeddah still brought its share of surprises and twists. Even before the start, history was in the making as Taylor Barnard became, at 20 years and 259 days, the youngest poleman in Formula E history. Managing to maintain his lead position in the first laps, the McLaren driver then became the youngest driver to lead a race.

Despite his lack of experience, the Englishman is fearless and, in addition to dominating his very experienced teammate Sam Bird since the beginning of the year, he gave a hard time to the day’s winner Oliver Rowland. Second the day before, the Nissan driver managed a masterful race by activating his two Attack Modes at the right moment to take the lead in the last third of the race.

With this second victory in four races this season, Rowland strengthens his first place in the championship ahead of Barnard, who finished second on the line in Jeddah after his third place the previous day. On the podium, the two British drivers are joined by a compatriot in the person of Jake Hughes, third on the grid and therefore third on the line. Thus, the top three at the start are the same at the finish but in a different order.

You have to look beyond the podium to find traces of the world champions in the discipline. In 4th and 6th place, respectively, Jake Dennis and Stoffel Vandoorne achieved the comebacks of the day with around fifteen positions gained. Jean-Eric Vergne and Pascal Wehrlein follow in 7th and 8th places.

Winner of the first Formula E race with Pit Boost, Maximilian Günther did not have the chance to achieve a double victory. Involved in a collision on the first lap, he was forced to retire. Nevertheless, the weekend is very positive for the DS Penske team, which leaves Jeddah with the certainty of having the tools to fight for the championship.

Championship currently led by Oliver Rowland among the drivers and Nissan among the teams, before the fifth race of the season which will take place in Miami on April 12.
