Guanyu Zhou signs with Ferrari
The Chinese driver will occupy the reserve driver position within the Italian team for the 2025 season.
Without a seat since his eviction from the Sauber team, Chinese driver Guanyu Zhou is bouncing back at Ferrari as a reserve driver. He will join driver Antonio Giovinazzi.
As a reminder, Zhou was a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy from 2014 to 2018 before joining the Alpine program.
His return to Maranello as a reserve driver could strengthen the team, especially after Robert Shwartzman’s departure to IndyCar in 2025 with Prema.
For the record, Guanyu Zhou made his Formula 1 debut in 2022 with Alfa Romeo, becoming the first Chinese driver to race in F1. In his first Grand Prix in Bahrain, he scored a point with a 10th place finish. During his three seasons (2022-2024), he struggled to compete with his teammate Valtteri Bottas, but delivered some strong performances, notably in qualifying. Despite his consistency, he was replaced at the end of 2024 due to Sauber’s strategic changes in preparation for their transition to Audi in 2026.
