The best tweets from the Qatar F1 Grand Prix
The Losail circuit was the scene of an eventful Grand Prix this Sunday. Max Verstappen wins for the 9th time this season, but summarizing the race with only its winner would be a big mistake: here is the selection of the best F1 tweets from the Qatar Grand Prix.
To start this Twitter review, here is an impressive figure concerning Max Verstappen’s victory. The Dutchman regains confidence in his F1 during this end of the season and surpasses the bar of 3000 career points. He is the third to reach this milestone after Sebastian Vettel (3098) and Lewis Hamilton (4850.5).
A win that takes Max Verstappen past 3,000 career points! 📈

She might be the big winner of the Qatar Grand Prix. If she was relatively unseen during the season, she came out three times this Sunday: a sign that the race was eventful.

Behind Max Verstappen’s performance, Zhou Guanyu’s might be flying under the radar, but it is nonetheless impressive. The Chinese driver scores the first points for Sauber in 2024! With one Grand Prix left in the season, it was unexpected. The last time the team scored points was in 2023… in Qatar! This achievement leads Zhou Guanyu to be named driver of the day.
DRIVER OF THE DAY! P8! 😆😆😆
Thanks to all the fans who voted for me, what a weekend for us considering the season we had, a huge relief, let’s GOOO! #QatarGP #TeamZHOU pic.twitter.com/blL5eAJcFN

Kevin Magnussen was held up for a long time by Alexander Albon. The Thai driver first overtook by pushing the Dane off the track at turn 1. The Williams driver then defended his position at the first corner but in a too aggressive manner according to Kevin Magnussen. So, when a few laps later, the Haas driver got rid of his opponent, there were no more pleasantries. Alexander Albon will indeed be penalized 10 seconds by the stewards for his maneuvers.

An uncommon incident occurred this Sunday. A rearview mirror from one of the cars ended up in the middle of the track on the start-finish straight. The race direction took a while to react to remove the object. On the 34th lap, Valterri Bottas shifted to let Charles Leclerc pass. Unlucky for him: he runs over the mirror and glass debris flies everywhere on the track. Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz get punctures, and finally, the race direction reacts. An incident that could have been avoided…

By the way, Yuki Tsunoda had not understood that it was a rearview mirror. On the radio, he understood “beaver”.
I asked @yukitsunoda07 in the media pen tonight about whether or not he saw the loose mirror on the track in the #QatarGP.
“Was it mirror? I heard beaver,” he replied, as he then admitted to wondering what they were talking about.

Fernando Alonso had already celebrated his 400th weekend in Formula 1 in Mexico a few weeks ago. This time it was the 400th start for the Spaniard. A nuance due to 3 withdrawals recorded before the start of a Grand Prix: in 2001 during the Belgian GP, in 2005 in the United States, and in 2017 for the Russian GP.
Yesterday’s #QatarGP marked Fernando Alonso’s 400th #F1 race start – the first driver to EVER reach that milestone.
He brought home some points with a P7⃣ finish, too. pic.twitter.com/YkI5n4jNjq

Max Verstappen had a hard time with the fact that George Russell insisted on requesting a penalty against him during the qualifications. The victory allowed to send a subliminal message on the radio.

Apparently Pierre Gasly is unstoppable at the end of the 2024 season. The French driver takes advantage of the race circumstances to secure a top 5 finish and allows Alpine to believe in 6th place in the constructors’ championship against Haas. He scores 10 points for this impressive 5th place.

There is still one more title to award in Abu Dhabi. The constructors’ championship will be played between McLaren and Ferrari. If Ferrari has made up some of its deficit this Sunday, McLaren’s lead remains significant. The Woking team has a 21-point lead before the last Grand Prix next Sunday!
Down to the wire.
