Charles Leclerc and Ferrari: “I don’t think confidence has been a problem.”
Since the start of the 2023 season, everything hasn't been rosy for Charles Leclerc, especially in terms of strategy. However, the Monegasque thinks that confidence has never been an issue. He prefers to focus on the future.
During many appointments this season, Charles Leclerc has been a victim of his team’s decisions. Moreover, this was also the case in 2022 on numerous occasions. Increasingly, the question of trust arises, but the Monegasque driver does not share this view.
No trust issues
This season, Charles Leclerc has been caught out several times in qualifying, due to choices made by his team, notably. For example, in Canada, he had asked to change tires but Ferrari had waited too long to bring him into the pit lane.
« We sometimes disagree, but we are very honest with each other », said Leclerc.
« I tell the team what I think and the team tells what they think. That’s how we can move forward. I don’t think trust has ever been a problem. We have a very different view inside the car than the team has on the pit wall, so these things happen, he further clarified.
Rectifying Scuderia Ferrari
For Charles Leclerc, the child of Scuderia Ferrari, the important thing is elsewhere. After an extremely frustrating 2022 season and a 2023 start below expectations, it is essential to bounce back. With the arrival of Frédéric Vasseur, Ferrari is rebuilding, but it will take time.
Charles Leclerc finds himself even more motivated to turn around Ferrari. « I am the first one who wants to fight for the championship. But it’s not frustrating, it really motivates me a lot. »
« I am even more motivated to change this, to bring Ferrari back to where it deserves to be, which is always at the top. Once we achieve that, I am sure it will be a very, very special moment », he added. Like in 2022, Charles Leclerc wants to experience the joys of victory with Ferrari. But this time, for a little longer than half a season.
Running for Ferrari: a privilege
However, the Monegasque driver feels happy at Ferrari, the team that he has held close to his heart since he was a child. Even without being fully competitive, he can feel the passion from the Tifosi fans.
“« The passion that people have for the team is unique. It is a good thing that there is so much enthusiasm, but it comes with more challenging things to manage, because because of this passion, people are quite impatient »,” he explained.
« I don’t feel outside pressure but I put a lot of pressure on myself to succeed, the responsibility of bringing Ferrari back to the top. Being a Ferrari driver is something very special », Charles Leclerc concluded.
The Monégasque’s contract expires in 2024, the Scuderia Ferrari will be eager to try to renew it in order not to lose its diamond.
