Max Verstappen frustrated with his qualifying session

Hungary is the land of Mercedes surprises. After last year’s unexpected pole position by George Russell, it’s Lewis Hamilton who repeated the feat this year. The seven-time world champion stole the pole position from Max Verstappen in the final moments, by a mere three thousandths of a second.

However, despite being the favorite, the Dutchman failed to put everything together in the final moments to improve his first time. [d] Today in qualifying, it was really difficult. In Q1 and Q2, I was trying to gain confidence to really attack the corners. I thought my first attempt in Q3 was good enough, just like the second attempt, and yet, I didn’t have any sensation. You try to push a little more, you lose the rear, you lose the front, [f] explains the Dutchman.

A patient Max Verstappen on track?

« I think we should be ahead with the car we normally have, but so far this weekend, I don’t think we’ve been able to achieve that. »

The double world champion will therefore start from the second place, alongside Lewis Hamilton. Given his character, it is logical to think that Max Verstappen will be aggressive from the first meters to regain the first position. However, the Hungaroring is a circuit where overtaking is difficult.

« I don’t expect it to be a very simple race. I mean, I expect us to be fast, but here, it’s not easy to overtake, especially when you are quite close to the pace. »
