Carlos Sainz: « No one knows when I’ll be back on the podium »

3rd in the Austrian Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz was satisfied with his race and Ferrari's work this weekend. Above all, he wants to enjoy these moments, while his future in F1 is still unknown.

Carlos Sainz: « No one knows when I’ll be back on the podium »

Solid throughout the weekend, in front of Charles Leclerc in Sprint and in the race, Carlos Sainz can let a smile slip after the Austrian Grand Prix. A rare smile for the usually reserved Spaniard. But since February, things have changed. Sad and disappointed to be leaving Ferrari, he has shifted his paradigm. As if the materialistic F1 driver, always looking to stack up trophies, had transformed into an aging poet savoring his happiness, not knowing he is eternal on the podiums.

« When we are on a podium, partying, wearing a Ferrari jumpsuit, we take it for granted. But I will rather enjoy this moment because no one knows when the next time in the future I will experience this. »

Try to follow George

The materialistic, calculating side resurfaces in the Ferrari driver when it comes to tallying up the weekend:

» It was quite a tumultuous race at the front. For us, it was about trying to keep up with George. We knew that the Mercedes could have a slight advantage today in terms of race pace, but we tried everything to keep up with it. Oscar, in the end, came very, very fast. So finishing 3rd is a good result. We can be quite happy and proud because this weekend was not easy for us. Leaving with 15 points and a P3 is a good result.

“It is a happy day for Formula 1.”

Just like his merry men by his side on the podium, the Ferrari driver did not imagine himself fighting for a podium finish, even if he lacked a little to claim victory:

« It’s a happy day for Formula 1, there was a bit of action in front and we were able to see some beautiful battles. Unfortunately for us, we are coming back from a few tough races where we are not quite there yet to fight for victory, but we are trying to do our best to come back in shape at Silverstone and in the upcoming races… to make sure we are there next time and enjoy it. »
