24 Heures du Mans: the #78 Akkodis could be penalized
The Lexus of the French Akkodis team was given a one-minute stop-and-go penalty. It will only execute this penalty if it is sanctioned again during the race.
A small incident that can have major consequences. During the warm-up, Nyck de Vries in the Toyota #7 went on to hit the back of the Akkodis #78. The front wing of the Hypercar was completely destroyed and the Dutch driver was only able to complete one lap during this session.
While watching the replay, it turns out that the French team’s Lexus braked heavily, which surprised the former Formula 1 driver. For this action, the race officials decided to penalize the #78 crew.
She received a stop and go penalty for one minute and one penalty point. However, the car will only have to serve this penalty if it receives another sanction during the race. So, the team has a sword of Damocles hanging over their heads. The FIA statement specifies that Akkodis cannot appeal this decision.
Nyck de Vries, involved in the incident, received a warning. When entering the pits, the Dutchman crossed the white line, which is prohibited by the regulations.
