Corvette plans to move up in the rankings during the night
Unlike in the LMGTE era, Corvette is struggling more with its GT3 at Le Mans. Only one of the two cars entered by TF Sport made it through to the Hyperpole. The #81 will only start from 18th place, but is counting on its night comfort to catch up with the #82.
Corvette at Le Mans, there are nine victories. The tenth is within reach. The goal is clearly displayed by the American brand. The drivers also feel this need to proudly represent the team’s colors on a track that has often been successful for them.
With Corvette’s history at Le Mans, we have to achieve a good result here for the manufacturer. We are doing our best. Here, I hope we will have a good race pace, better than in qualifying. That’s more important. With the double points, it will count,” explains Tom van Rompuy, driver of #81.
The Belgian, if he wants to win, will have to work hard. On Saturday, he will only start from 18th place. In qualifying, his teammate Charlie Eastwood could not complete his effort. In the last run, we were doing a good lap, but then the red flag came out. We will try to have a good race and move up.
To try to catch up with the sister car, which will start 7th this Saturday, Tom van Rompuy already has a strategy in mind. Attack during the night. The crew was very comfortable during the night sessions. We will try to gain as many positions as possible to be well placed Sunday morning.
During these 24 hours, Corvette will be able to rely on recent improvements in reliability. Will this allow it to stay trouble-free and to climb back up the rankings?
