Sebastien Bourdais: “Not bad for a 45-year-old guy”
The French driver achieved the second best time in qualifying with his Cadillac #3. A performance that the Le Mans driver was keen to highlight. He will try to obtain the pole position this Thursday evening.
He has not lost any of his talent. Still very fast at home, in Le Mans, Sébastien Bourdais once again confirmed this status during qualifying. The Cadillac driver led this session for 45 minutes until the BMW #15 delivered an incredible performance.
In the end, Cadillac #3 finished with the second fastest time of the session. And therefore secured its spot for the hyperpole, scheduled for this Thursday evening. The French driver, satisfied with his performance, made sure to point it out. “Not bad for a 45-year-old guy,” he declared after getting out of his Hypercar. “I am very happy for the whole team.”
But it took a bit of luck for the American team driver to put everything together. The heavy traffic at Le Mans cost him a lot of time. I had no luck in the last sector, I lost a few tenths because of an LMP2, but I still did a very solid lap. There was a window and after that, there was traffic everywhere and drivers took risks that could have affected the efficiency of the car.
Despite a hint of frustration, the Tricolore will be able to fight for pole position on Thursday evening. But yesterday, it was a good starting point. We made some changes after the afternoon tests and the car was really amazing. Last year, his hypercar was able to get it. But a mechanical problem had spoiled everything.
