Cadillac No. 2 disqualified from race in Qatar
Arriving in fourth place in the 1,812-kilometer Qatar race, Cadillac number 2 was ultimately disqualified. Its bodywork is being scrutinized.
Late decision. About a month after the opening race, the 1,812 km of Qatar, the ranking is shaken up. An official document, published on Friday, March 29, announced the disqualification of Cadillac number 2.
The Hypercar driven by Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn, and Sébastien Bourdais was running with a non-compliant bodywork. The results of the 3D scan and other investigations show that the rear diffuser protections installed on the left and right sides are higher (on the Z axis) and misaligned (on the Y axis) than the nominal value stated in the official homologation of the bodywork, including the allowed tolerances, explains the official document from the race officials.
The delegation nonetheless judged that there was no intention to cheat. Whether on the part of Cadillac or the chassis supplier, Dallara. But the violation of this rule is necessarily punished by disqualification. Hence the application of the penalty.
The trio of Robert Kubica, Robert Shwartzman, and Yifei Ye therefore clinches fourth place in the 1,812-kilometer race in Qatar. And Cadillac falls to the bottom of the constructor championship.
