The sprint race boosted Pierre Gasly’s confidence
Third in the sprint race, Pierre Gasly hopes for a good result in the main race, even though he will start from a distant 12th position.
His podium brought a smile back to the Alpine team. For the past two races, the French team has not scored any points due to both drivers retiring each time. The team has lost a significant number of points in the constructors’ championship battle, allowing McLaren to pull away.
At Spa, the weekend got off to a bad start as both drivers failed to make it to Q2 for Sunday’s race qualification. But things then improved. In the shootout sprint, both men made it to Q3. In the sprint race, everything went well for Pierre Gasly.
In front of Hamilton and Perez
Thanks to a good strategy, the Normand managed to secure third place ahead of Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton. With the Mexican having to retire, there was only the Mercedes behind him, which he managed to keep at a distance.
« I am so happy for the entire team today, this victory is for everyone at the trackside and in the Viry and Enstone factories, affirms the Frenchman. « It was not easy to keep Sergio [Perez] and then Lewis [Hamilton], but we did it and I am so thrilled. »
These six points allow Alpine to move forward, even though McLaren scored one more point with Oscar Piastri and three with Lando Norris. But this result has boosted Pierre Gasly, who is « confident » ahead of the main race this Sunday. At the end of the 44 laps of the Spa circuit, he hopes to achieve « another good result ».
