The standings after the Jeddah GP: Verstappen and Red Bull leading alone, Bearman scores his first points!
The two Red Bull drivers continue to ride solo in the rankings. Oliver Bearman makes his first appearance, and, along with Charles Leclerc's podium finish, secures Ferrari's second place in the constructor standings. A battle between Mercedes and McLaren is starting to take shape.
Unsurprisingly, Max Verstappen emerged victorious on the Jeddah circuit in Saudi Arabia this Saturday. At the end of the second weekend of the season, he has 51 out of a possible 52 points! Sergio Perez, finishing second in the race, is in the same position in the driver standings with 36 points.
Charles Leclerc sets the fastest lap in the final lap of the race
Carlos Sainz’s absence, due to undergoing an appendectomy, allowed Oliver Bearman to experience his first F1 race.
By finishing in seventh place, after a very strong race, the Ferrari driver scored 6 points and climbed to 10th place in the drivers’ standings. These might be his only points of the season, unless he will have to once again replace a Ferrari driver by December. Carlos Sainz drops from 3rd position to 6th.
Charles Leclerc finishes on the podium and now has an 8-point gap behind the second-placed Sergio Perez. He even secured the bonus point for the fastest lap in the race at his last opportunity. Ferrari’s performance over the weekend is positive, as the Scuderia has nearly twice as many points as McLaren, who is third in the constructor’s championship.
A fight for the constructor podium in sight?
Mercedes and McLaren are only separated by two points in the standings. It is still too early to say for sure, but at the start of the season at least, the performance of the two cars seems close. From George Russell in 4th place to Hamilton in 9th, the battle is likely to be tight, with a 10-point difference after 2 races.
Haas scored its first point this season thanks to Niko Hülkenberg’s tenth place finish in Jeddah. Aston Martin can thank Fernando Alonso, who has brought in 12 of the 13 points for his team since the start of the season. Lance Stroll ended his race prematurely by hitting the wall. Lastly, we will have to wait to see Alpine score its first points. However, Esteban Ocon still had a decent race by finishing 13th.

Even though it’s only the second race of the season, the standings are starting to take shape. There won’t be any F1 next week, we’ll have to wait until March 24th for the Australian Grand Prix.
