Oscar Piastri retires in the first lap in Belgium
The Australian driver was the victim of a collision right at the first corner. The impact damaged his car and he had to retire shortly after.
His weekend is ending in the worst possible way. Following his second place finish in the sprint race, Oscar Piastri hoped to make it back to the podium in the main race. But his Grand Prix came to a quick halt.
In the first corner, Oscar Piastri was on the inside of the turn and Carlos Sainz turned without considering the presence of the McLaren. The Australian driver was therefore struck by the Ferrari, which sent him into the wall of the Source corner.
Oscar Piastri then was slow for long seconds before stopping his car at the end of the second sector. He therefore didn’t get to see the end of the first lap. Only Lando Norris remains to bring points to the British team.
On his side, Carlos Sainz suffered damage to his car. However, this didn’t prevent the Spaniard from continuing the Grand Prix. But, his pace was affected as he lost several positions.
