Comparison of points scored at the mid-season of F1 between 2023 and 2022

The summer break begins. The teams have played half of the season, it’s an opportunity to compare it to the previous season.

Aston Martin has made a phenomenal leap forward. Compared to the first half of last season, the British team has gained 6 positions in the constructors’ standings. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll have earned 172 more points compared to last season.

2023 shows the domination of Red Bull. The Austrian team has won all the races so far, these 12 victories allow the energy drink company to have 503 points. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez’s cars have a 256-point lead over Mercedes, the second team on the grid. The 2022 F1 season was much more balanced, with Red Bull only having an 82-point lead over its closest competitor, Ferrari.

The Italian stable has fallen compared to last season, as the Scuderia Ferrari went from second place after 12 races in 2022 to fourth place at the 2023 summer break. Alpine has also dropped 2 places in the constructor’s standings compared to 2022.

Williams is the second winning team of this 2023 season. The team scored 11 points compared to only 3 last season, after the same number of races. Points that allow the team based in Grove to move from last place in the 2022 standings to the 7th place in the constructor’s championship this season.

The ranking of the drivers is not to be neglected

The first part of the 2022 season was tight. Dutchman Max Verstappen had only a 60-point lead over his rival Charles Leclerc. This season, the two-time world champion has 125 points more than his runner-up Sergio Perez. The difference is striking for Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard was 10th in the drivers’ championship behind the wheel of his Alpine with only 37 points. Since his move to Aston Martin, the two-time world champion in 2005 and 2006 is on the third step of the podium with 149 points accumulated in 12 Grand Prix.

The 2023 season has caused Monégasque Charles Leclerc to drop 3 places, and he is currently in 5th position. The Ferrari driver has 71 points less compared to his 2022 season. Kevin Magnussen’s Haas also lost 20 points in the drivers’ standings. In the previous season, the Danish driver was ranked 10th, but this year the 30-year-old driver is in 18th place among the drivers.
