Max Mosley will decide next year whether to run again for the presidency of the FIA. His term runs until 2009.
Mosley was elected to head the governing body in 1993 and was re-elected for a fourth term in 2005.
Aged 67, he admitted that he did not want to stay in this position for too long. Furthermore, he stated that he will not make any decisions about a possible retirement before next year.
« I don’t want to talk about it at the moment, » he stated on the BBC airwaves, when asked if he is considering retirement.
« In 2004, I indeed said that I was tired of this position, but several people insisted that I stay a little longer. »
« I think the day you start thinking the machine can’t operate without me is the moment you need to stop. And, you shouldn’t overuse the good things, » he continued.
« When I started, I was old enough to be the father of some of the drivers. Now, there are drivers who could be my grandchildren, and that’s starting to be right on the edge! »
« But as for knowing what will happen in 2009, I will decide within a year, » concluded Mosley.
