Timo Glock, recent 2007 GP2 champion, confirmed the information that a contractual dispute with BMW Sauber is indeed real and prevents him from moving to Toyota where a driver’s seat awaits him this time in 2008.
It was reported on Friday that the Toyota team refuses to certify the German rookie for three years at her home due to a conflict with her existing contract with BMW.
Glock was this year a test driver for BMW-Sauber, and the team based in Hinwil also has an option on his services for the same role in 2008.
Asked by the German newspaper Bild whether he is disappointed that BMW blocked his promotion at Toyota, Glock replied:
I have a great chance with another great team to get a position as a driver. For now, BMW cannot offer me this opportunity.
« That’s why I have to change, » he added.
« Of course, I am very grateful to BMW. They helped me, I helped them. But now I have the opportunity to move to the next step. »
« I truly hope that a solution will be found, » said Glock.
« I’m fortunate to go to another team in a very good position and I will fight for it, » he concluded.
